8 Oct 2010
The time has come for our final morning in Venice. Having covered most of the sights the last three days, we decided to head to the northen part of the city where the Jewish Ghettos are.

Our walking route in green today.
A protest near Rio Terra S. Leonardo by some youth
The protesting bunch.
Entering the Ghetto Vecchio (old ghetto).
Campo di Ghetto Nuovo (new ghetto). Interestingly, the old ghetto is actually newer than the new ghetto.
Along Fondamenta de le Capuzine
The Chiesa della Madonna dell'Orto, erected by the Humiliati around 1350 CE.
A closer look at the top of the Chiese della Madonna dell'Orto
Palazzo Mastelli (del cammello)
Ca' Pesaro, a museum, by now we were beside the Grand Canal
A nice building near Ca' Pesaro
The Grand Canal facing Ca' Pesaro, next to Galleria Giorgio Franchetti
The €0.50 traghetto, cheapest gondola ride to the opposite end
Go for it! Only €0.50! The vegetable market is in the background. We decided to take the long way round to the markets via Rialto bridge.
Lego Donald Duck's Nephew
The protesters at the market
Closely watched
The market area, this part is mainly shopping
The fish market
Swordfish
Little crabs
Is that you paul?
Vegetable market, looks really messy compared to the Viktualienmarkt in Munich.
Nice looking bridge in front of a restaurant with bombastic chimneys
Entrance to the Antica Trattoria
A Disney shop in Venice
Fondamenta de la Maddalena
The most unsexy pasta
That ends our various walks of Venice. In retrospect, Venice was the most beautiful Italian city of the trip and the (gasp!) cheapest tourist trap. There is nothing like Venice, nothing that is the Venice of XXX ever comes close. For lunch, we settled for pizza at a little pizza bar. Then, we went back to our B&B and left for the train station. We were headed to the lovely beach town of Rimini. It's time to take it easy.
At Venice Santa Lucia train station
What looks like some sort of high-speed rail
Our ride to Rimini. The regional trains, old, functional
Our 20kg luggages were placed on these rack.......... scary! I kept thinking with all the great German beer bottles inside, the rack would give way at any moment.

Having arived in Rimini, we took a rather long walk to get to our hotel as it was on the other side of the train tracks!
Night view of Viale Amerigo Vespucci. Hotels on both sides of the road. Rimini is a beach resort town.
Ristorante Amico (marked in the map above), nice restaurant with reasonable price.
White Wine
Ravioli stuffed with fish, possibly grouper.
Seafood risotto.
After our nice meal, we retired to bed. Rimini is rather quiet at this time of the year as it is too cold for the beach. Tommorrow, we will be making a day trip to the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, the oldest surviving republic in the world in a medieval city.
